{"id":17,"date":"2014-04-26T10:45:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-26T10:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.appledomination.co.za\/index.php\/2014\/04\/26\/review-walkthrough-clockwise-your\/"},"modified":"2015-08-10T16:33:01","modified_gmt":"2015-08-10T16:33:01","slug":"review-walkthrough-clockwise-your","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.appledomination.co.za\/index.php\/2014\/04\/26\/review-walkthrough-clockwise-your\/","title":{"rendered":"[Review + Walkthrough] Clockwise &#8211; Your Digital Butler"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/AppIcon.175x175-75.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;\"><img border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/AppIcon.175x175-75.png?w=960\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIf you are reading this, then there is a pretty good chance that you like to tinker&nbsp;with your Mac, and believe in the motto &#8220;Work smart, not hard!&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nAnd if this is true, then <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/clockwise\/id644904486?mt=12\" target=\"_blank\">Clockwise<\/a> is just the app to help you do it!<\/div>\n<div>\nThe app is very easy to get started with, and is very much self-explanatory.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nYou can create many different kinds of events, that combine a range of options, settings and configurations, to run on very specific schedule, to automate your life.<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.53.57.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.53.57.png?resize=320%2C259\" height=\"259\" width=\"320\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nWhen you want to create a task, a handful of choices need to be made, and you will be on your way.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nHere&#8217;s how you do it:<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<b>First, set when the event will take place.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThis can either be at a certain time of a day (ALARM), After a certain amount of time has lapsed (TIMER), or on a keyboard shortcut (SHORTCUT).<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-12.27.37.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-12.27.37.png?resize=288%2C320\" height=\"320\" width=\"288\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<b>Next, set your repetition, if any.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<div>\nThis will be once-off (RUN A SINGLE DAY), run every few days (REPEAT EVERY X DAYS), and you can even have it run every day from now on (RUN FOREVER)<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nJust before you get to the good stuff and setup your event, big or small, you can choose your post-event choice. You have 2 choices.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<b>Set your Post-Run options.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nIf you close Clockwise, or your Mac is asleep, when the event should trigger, do you want the event to run once Clockwise comes back online? You can simply choose Yes, or customise it to only run, albeit delayed, if the date is within a certain number of days from the event date. (ENABLE DELAYED TRIGGERING).<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nAnd if this is a once-off task, that you never want\/need to run again, then choose to have it removed after completion (DELETE WHEN COMPLETED)<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.56.19.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.56.19.png?resize=290%2C320\" height=\"320\" style=\"cursor: move;\" width=\"290\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nOnce these simple configurations are set, move on to the actual event configuration, and get down to business.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<b>Finally&#8217;ish, create your event\/s.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe events that you can set here are almost limitless!<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThere are 16 native events, that cover a super-wide spectrum. But if that&#8217;s not enough, you can always run a custom script, no problem.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe events include:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ol style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.56.32.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.56.32.png?resize=173%2C320\" height=\"320\" width=\"173\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<li>Alert (Can use Notification Centre of Growl)<\/li>\n<li>Tweet<\/li>\n<li>Change Brightness&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Change Volume&nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>Flash Screen<\/li>\n<li>Play Sound<\/li>\n<li>Play\/Pause iTunes (Just play or pause the current iTunes)<\/li>\n<li>Change iTunes Volume<\/li>\n<li>Play iTunes Music (Play a specific track or playlist)<\/li>\n<li>Open File\/Folder\/App<\/li>\n<li>Open Internet Address<\/li>\n<li>Run User Script<\/li>\n<li>Send Email<\/li>\n<li>Take Screenshot<\/li>\n<li>Take iSight Photo<\/li>\n<li>Wait for Internet (Simply waits for&nbsp;internet &nbsp;connection to become available)<\/li>\n<li>Pause (Apply a pause between events)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe events are fairly self-explanatory, and super-easy to set up.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nI personally love using the Volume and brightness options, to reset each back to a certain percentage every morning, before I deliver my next class. That way I always know the volume level before playing Keynotes and Videos&nbsp;to a room full of students.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nYou can set multiple events to take place, and set them to run in a specific order. Very powerful!<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.57.55.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-11.57.55.png?resize=266%2C320\" height=\"320\" width=\"266\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\nUsing a combination of alerts, apps, iTunes and files, can easily act as &#8220;alarms&#8221; or notifications for you, for&nbsp;certain timings, or certain tasks.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nIf you want iTunes to play, and then pause after 30 minutes, use the Pause event, between the Play iTunes Music and Pause iTunes events.<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-12.42.35.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-12.42.35.png?resize=320%2C311\" height=\"311\" width=\"320\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nIf you want to send a tweet or an email, be&nbsp;sure to use the Wait for Internet event, or else an error will be issued if internet is not yet available, say after Mac startup.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div>\nOnce you have set up your various events, you are DONE!<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nBut if you want granular control as to when exactly, or not, you want the event\/s to run, then you have a schedule you can set, as well as calendar exceptions.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<b>Then, set your daily, weekly, monthly schedules.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThe schedule is pretty comprehensive.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nIt allows you to set a start and end date first of all.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\nThen you can set which days of the week, as well as choosing the occurrence of a weekday in the month, from the beginning or the end, for it to run on.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nSay you want to run the event on the 3rd Monday of every month, between April and June, as well as the last Sunday of every month for the whole year? Yip, you can do it!<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-12.25.41.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.appledomination.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Screen-Shot-2014-04-26-at-12.25.41.png?resize=222%2C320\" height=\"320\" width=\"222\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>\nOnce you have the schedule, you can then start to exempt certain days.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<b>Now, set your calendar exceptions.<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\nThis manual, as you will specify the individual days based on the calendar.
