First things first, DO NOT INSTALL MACKEEPER!<\/p>\n

Why?<\/p>\n

MacKeeper masquerades as an antivirus\/anti-spyware\/anti-adware\/\u201cmake your Mac super bad-ass fast\u201d app.
\nBut, as you can imagine, it does an entire total of 0 of the above.<\/p>\n

It is a virus? No.
\nDoes it add any value to your Mac? No.
\nDoes it do any harm to your Mac? Officially-unofficially No.<\/p>\n

So why do so many people install it then?<\/p>\n

Well it\u2019s very clever in the way it presents itself as a healthy app for your mac, making it faster and whatnot.
\nAnd any unassuming casual web surfer that comes across the various forms of its ads, wouldn\u2019t hesitate at all to install.<\/p>\n

The installation itself is perfectly normal, but once installed, users may experience a few different symptoms, including:<\/p>\n

Advertising banners forced on web pages that you are visiting.
\nRandom web page text is turned into hyperlinks.
\nBrowser popups appear which recommend fake updates or other software.
\nOther unwanted adware programs might get installed without the user\u2019s knowledge (Thanks to MacKeeper\u2019s very special affiliates program)<\/p>\n

What do you do if you did indeed install MacKeeper?<\/p>\n

There is nothing wrong with simply deleting the app out of your applications folder.
\nOpen your Finder, Open Application in your sidebar to the left. Find MacKeeper, right-click and choose Move to Trash. Then Empty the Trash.
\nIt will however leave a few files behind in some deep and dark root and system libraries.<\/p>\n

Therefore my recommended method is to simply download the uber-awesome Adware Medic<\/a>, and let it take care of MacKeeper once and for all.<\/p>\n

I personally use CleanMyMac3<\/a> which takes care of any app uninstallation needs that arise.<\/p>\n
